Estonia and the Baltic markets are small in size and with a short history as independent economies. Despite size and yet not fully developed there is growth and Lindab captures the market with the added possibilities.
Raul joined Lindab when we acquired his former employers ventilation business 1998. Like many other young Estonians he was well aware of the benefits to work for a mature international company, like Lindab, expanding into a growth region. He is a graduated engineer specialized in HVAC from the University of Tallinn. Although born as a proud Estonian, he is active in an international and multilingual environment having daily contacts with colleagues, suppliers and customers outside Estonia.
"Lindab is decentralized when it comes to local business questions. We can act as a coordinated Group when that is the optimal solution. And I can benefit from Group support when we don’t have the right competency for something in my business area. This mix has worked out very well, which is good and allows me to focus growth and profitability for my area of responsibility”, greets a successful young Business Unit Manager in Lindab.

“After military service in the Navy and a year as a travel guide, I trained as a pilot at one of the SAS flying schools in the USA. This meant an exciting time as a captain and flying instructor there. In the USA I met my wife-to-be, who also worked in the airline business. At the end of the four-year period I was in the US, my wife got a job at Lindab as cockpit crew on the plane Lindab had at that time.
In the planning department, which was my first position at Lindab, I learnt everything about complete product handling and manufacture of all Lindab Profile's products. This was a really good schooling. After that I was moved to the stores, became stores manager after a while, and was responsible for computerising our stores logistics. A longing for contact with clients and sales and some nagging at the personnel department had an effect, and was the start of my continuing concentration on sales.
Today I am Sales Manager of Lindab Sverige and responsible for a team of about 40 people who sell Profile's products to the Swedish professional market - sheet metal workers, building entrepreneurs and steel constructors. I'm the type of person who really wants to work with clients, I want to get out, I need action. Everyone on our team - me, our three regional managers and all the sales staff all have direct sales responsibility. In addition the regional managers and I have the constant challenge of making the sales staff's jobs easier and finding ways of raising their, and our, efficiency. Coming up with these solutions and at the same time earning money, making good deals - both for Lindab and our clients - are the best things about my job. That's where my driving force lies. Maybe that's my way of expressing this old familiar 'Lindab spirit'”.
